The bank statement is often the most important financial document in a visit visa file. Officers use it to answer three questions: can you afford this trip, is your income regular and genuine, and do you have reasons to come back to Pakistan.
What to submit
- Statement for the last 6 months in most cases (some countries ask for 3, some for 12). Use the period your consulate's checklist asks for.
- Bank stamp and signature on each page, or an official e-statement if the checklist allows it.
- Account maintenance certificate on bank letterhead, showing the account holder, account number, opening date and current balance.
- Recent date. Most consulates want the statement issued within a few days or weeks of your appointment.
What officers look at
- Regular income: salary credits, business receipts or rental income that match your employment or business documents.
- Normal spending: an account that is actually used for daily life looks more genuine than one that only holds a balance.
- Large deposits: a big amount added shortly before applying raises questions. If you sold property, received a gift or moved savings from another account, keep the proof and explain it in your cover letter.
- Consistency: your salary on the statement should match your salary slips, employment letter, tax return and visa form.
Is there a minimum balance?
Some countries publish a daily amount for visitors and others do not. There is no single "safe" figure. A balance that covers the full trip, plus your normal obligations at home, together with a steady income history, is what usually matters. Borrowing money to show a balance for a few days is easy for officers to spot and can lead to refusal.
If someone is sponsoring you
If a parent, spouse or relative pays for the trip, submit their bank statement, a sponsorship letter, proof of their income and proof of your relationship, such as the NADRA Family Registration Certificate. A sponsor abroad should also provide their residence status and an invitation letter.
Supporting documents that help
- FBR income tax returns and the wealth statement, if you are a filer.
- Salary slips and the employment letter, or business registration and the business account statement.
- Proof of other income such as rent agreements or pension.
How Meridian helps
As part of our visa file preparation, we review your bank statement against the rest of your file, point out anything an officer is likely to question, and help you explain it clearly in the cover letter. We never create or alter bank documents. See the full Schengen checklist or our USA visa guide.
